How to use pen tool in illustrator CC 2022 l Add anchor point l Remove anchor point l Class 05

Hi, this is Akash your host. In this class, I will discuss about the pen tool properly and we will create a batman logo from DC comic verse. So, let’s start the class.

First, take a new document. Rename this new document. The width will be 1920p and the height will be 1080p. Bleed will be 20p and then hit create.

CTRL+Mouse wheel or CMD+Mouse wheel to adjust the artboard properly so that we can see the artboard completely.

Now please select the pen tool. The color will be red and the stroke will be none. Now please click on the artboard so that one anchor point will draw here. Then hold shift so that the line begins straight, please follow my steps. As you can see a square shape is created here. You can go to properties and change the fill color to none or you can add stroke size also from here.

Now please select the star shape so that we can draw a star shape here. We can change the star shape color and change the stroke color to none. We can reduce the opacity so that we can see through it. Now please go to object and hit rasterize so that we can draw with pen tool over the star shape.

Alt or option+ mouse wheel to zoom in the star shape and please select the pen tool then draw a star shape with your pen tool. Now you can see I can’t see through this red color I don’t know where to put the last anchor point so all we need to do is just reduce the opacity as we did it before. And now please close the anchor point. Now you can increase the opacity to 100%.

Please go to the Layers panel and expand the layers panel. Now we can delete the rasterized star shape layer. As we can see we have made a wonderful star shape with our pen tool.

Now we will make a wavy shape here. Just start from an anchor point then click here then drag the 2nd anchor point to the up and then draw the 3rd anchor point. Now this time I want to make this straight but it won’t let me draw a straight line. All I have to do is remove the curvy anchor point from the last selection. Just hover your mouse pointer to the last anchor point and click on the last anchor point, now you can draw a straight line. Hold shift to draw a straight line.

Now please select all the shape layers by clicking CTRL+Left or CMD+Left and removing them. Download this logo from the description, please. Then go to file then place this batman logo on your artboard so that we can draw a batman logo by following this logo. Just draw the batman logo here by holding the left key and dragging it over the whole artboard.

Select the pen tool make sure your fill color is none and stroke color is red then please start from the left side. Drag the 2nd anchor point to the up so that it will curve. As you can see our 4th anchor point is getting curvy from the wrong side, we have to remove the curvy anchor point effects from the last anchor point. As we did it before. CTRL+Z or CMD+Z to undo and click on your last anchor point.

Hold shift to draw a straight line. Now we can remove the image file we placed on this artboard. Please drag this image file to here to delete it. Now we can rename this batman logo and drag this batman logo to this plus icon. Illustrator will create a duplicate layer and we can just inverse it for our other part. Select the move tool so that we can separate the new copied layer to the right. Now please select the direct selection tool and select half of this selection and rotate it. After selecting the shape hold your CTRL or CMD key and hit the right key to find out the transform option. Then rotate, you can change the value from here. Hit cancel because this time we will use the old way. Hold CTRL or CMD then hover your mouse key to the corner and rotate the shape. After rotating it hold CTRL or CMD go to transform then reflect then chose horizontally, hit ok. Now just adjust the shape. Now please select the whole shape and change the stroke color to black, otherwise, batman will find me and punch me out of my face, because he is the night, he is the shadow, he doesn’t like red. Now I think I should teach you what is (Add anchor point tool) and what is (Delete anchor point tool). Just draw a square shape with 4 anchor points only. When you hover your pen tool pointer on the anchor point you will see a minus sign. If you click on the anchor point your anchor point will remove. And also, you can add anchor point by clicking here and drag the anchor point to curve the design.
